⚡ The Engineering Invention
Inspecting live high-voltage power transmission lines historically required hazardous manual line climbing or weather-dependent helicopter flyovers.
The Power Line Inspection Robot introduces a hybrid airborne-and-crawling mechanism:
- Hexarotor Airborne Flight: Multi-rotor hexarotor flies up to the overhead high-voltage transmission line.
- Conductor Landing & Crawling: Safely lands on the energized conductors and transitions from airborne flight to crawling along the line on rubber-coated rollers.
- High-Voltage EMI Shielding: Insulated shielding protects onboard electronics from severe electromagnetic field interference.
- Wireless Video Downlink: Pan–tilt camera streams real-time wireless video downlink to a ground control station, allowing field technicians to inspect conductors, insulators, and vibration dampers safely from the ground.
